Rumors have been circulating that the upcoming GeForce RTX 5080 from Nvidia, which is part of the highly anticipated “Blackwell” GPU lineup, will come with a hefty price tag.
According to a leaked listing at an Australian retailer shown to us by a Youtuber named Vex, the GPU could launch with a starting price of $1,500 MSRP, a significant jump from its predecessor, the RTX 4080, which debuted at $1,199.
Expected Price Increase
Reports suggest that the RTX 5080 could cost end users up to $1,739, factoring in the typical “premium tax” applied during initial GPU launches. This would mean a nearly $300 increase compared to the RTX 4080. Analysts attribute this price hike to NVIDIA’s use of high-end components, including the new GDDR7 memory chips, which are reportedly more expensive.
The leaked listing specifically points to the ASUS DUAL model, featuring a triple-fan configuration. While considered a mid-range variant compared to premium models like ROG STRIX, it still comes equipped with 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM, operating at an impressive 32 Gbps speed. This configuration offers a substantial upgrade in memory bandwidth over the RTX 4080, which tops out at 23 Gbps with GDDR6X.
Performance Upgrades
The GB203 GPU core will undoubtedly power the GeForce RTX 5080, significantly boosting performance for the next generation. By integrating GDDR7 memory, users can anticipate faster performance and higher bandwidth, making it a standout in Nvidia’s lineup. This GPU promises to deliver 736 GB/s of memory bandwidth, marking a noticeable leap in gaming and computational tasks.
While the RTX 5080 appears positioned for enthusiasts, pricing details for more accessible models like the RTX 5070 remain under wraps.
