The federal cabinet has decided to confiscate the passports of Pakistani citizens caught begging overseas and impose hefty fines on them.
This decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where other significant measures were also approved.
Earlier this month, the Pakistani government took a firm stance against citizens involved in criminal activities abroad, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to official sources, the passports of 4,700 Pakistani nationals currently imprisoned in the UAE have already been blocked. UAE authorities shared detailed records of 5,292 Pakistani citizens serving sentences for various offenses.
Among the blocked passports, 2,470 are linked to drug-related convictions, while 100 belong to individuals found guilty of fraud, deception, and sexual harassment. Additionally, the government revoked the passports of 704 Pakistanis involved in theft and 216 connected to murder and robbery cases.
The government also blocked the passports of 375 Pakistani nationals living illegally in the UAE.
