Nvidia’s “Jetson Thor” Aims to Be The Next Big Thing in Computing

Nvidia is preparing to launch Jetson Thor, a new generation of compact computers for humanoid robots, in the first half of 2025. Rather than competing directly with manufacturers like Tesla, the company focuses on supporting the global robotics industry. Nvidia’s vice president of robotics, Deepu Talla, highlighted that the company aims to empower the “hundreds of thousands” of robot makers worldwide by providing the essential technology they need.

Two major technological breakthroughs—the explosion of generative AI models and the ability to train robots in simulated environments—have opened new possibilities for humanoid robots. These advancements allow robots to become smarter, more capable, and better equipped to tackle complex tasks.

Furthermore, Nvidia’s push into robotics reflects its response to shifting market conditions. Major customers, including Amazon and Google, are developing AI chips to reduce reliance on Nvidia. As a result, the company is diversifying its focus and leveraging its expertise to dominate the rapidly growing robotics sector. By transitioning into this space, Nvidia secures its position and stays ahead of competitors in the AI-driven technology market.

With Jetson Thor, Nvidia takes a bold step forward in advancing robotics technology. This new launch positions the company as a crucial player in the next wave of innovation, enabling it to shape the future of humanoid robots while addressing the demands of a rapidly evolving industry.
