Uzbekistan to Start Direct Flights to Karachi

Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, has announced plans to launch a direct flight route between Uzbekistan and Karachi this year. This development aims to enhance connectivity and deepen economic cooperation between the two nations.

The two countries have been actively strengthening ties, highlighted by a $1 billion trade agreement signed in 2023. A roadmap for industrial collaboration further underscores their shared commitment to fostering regional connectivity.

During his visit to Karachi from January 2–4, Ambassador Tukhtaev met with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), and local business leaders.

Uzbekistan has also eased travel restrictions by introducing a soft visa policy for Pakistanis in September 2023, coupled with direct flights from Tashkent to Lahore. These measures have significantly boosted tourism and business exchanges.

Highlighting trade growth, Tukhtaev noted that bilateral trade has tripled since 2019, reaching $387 million in 2023. He also announced plans for a “Made in Uzbekistan” industrial exhibition in Karachi, aimed at further enhancing economic ties.

The ambassador invited Pakistani businesses to explore opportunities in Uzbekistan’s thriving regions, pledging full support for facilitating partnerships through government and business meetings.
