The prolonged dry spell has led to a significant increase in respiratory and cold-related illnesses in public hospitals across the federal capital.
According to Dr. Mubashir Mushtaq Daha, spokesperson for the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the hospital’s emergency department is treating an average of 50 patients daily. Currently, 20 to 25 elderly patients are admitted for treatment. Additionally, over 150 patients visit the hospital’s outpatient department (OPD) daily for conditions such as colds, flu, and pneumonia.
PIMS Executive Director, Professor Dr. Imran Sikander, has instructed the Head of the Emergency Department, Dr. Sharjeel, to ensure optimal care for all patients. He has also directed doctors, particularly those in pulmonology wards, to prioritize providing the best possible medical services.
Dr. Sikander emphasized the importance of preventive measures during this dry spell.
“People should wear masks when going outdoors and drink lukewarm water. Elderly individuals should take extra precautions to protect themselves from the effects of the dry cold and prevent illnesses,” he advised.
He further assured that all available resources are being utilized to provide top-notch medical care to every patient.
