Ahmed Shehzad Registers for PSL 10 Draft Despite Retiring

Two years after announcing his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Ahmed Shehzad is set to make a dramatic return to the tournament.

The 33-year-old top-order batter has registered himself in the Gold category for the  PSL 10 Draft, signaling his intent to once again grace Pakistan’s premier T20 league.

A Surprising U-Turn

In 2023, Ahmed Shehzad shocked fans and the cricketing world when he announced his retirement from the PSL. Citing personal reasons and a failure to find a team for his services, the flamboyant right-hander, who was once an integral part of  Pakistan cricket, stepped away from the competition.

Known for his aggressive batting style and charismatic presence on the field, he had represented Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans over the years. His departure left fans wondering whether they would ever see the batter in action again.

Now, two years later, Ahmed Shehzad’s decision to rejoin the PSL fold has reignited interest in the build-up to the PSL 10 draft.

Ahmed Shehzad’s PSL Stats:

Tournament Teams Matches Innings Not Outs Runs Highest Score Average Balls Faced Strike Rate 100s 50s 4s 6s Catches Stumpings
PSL 2 teams 45 43 2 1077 99 26.26 897 120.06 0 9 109 32 20 0

Shehzad has been one of the most recognizable faces in Pakistan cricket, and his PSL journey reflects his impact on the league. With over 1,000 PSL runs under his belt at an average of 26.26 and a strike rate hovering around 120, he has been a consistent performer in the T20 format.

However, his career has not been without its downs. While his early performances in the PSL showcased his ability to dominate bowlers, he has not found any takers since the PSL 2020/21 season.

Since then he has transitioned to more of a social media presence with his could-be teammates often drawing his ire. His day trade may not work out in his favor once again, especially with limited spots on the roster and a lot more talent on offer.
