FIA Investigates Fake Images of Maryam Nawaz and UAE President

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s cybercrime division has initiated an investigation into individuals accused of creating and sharing manipulated images and videos of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on social media platforms.

The UAE President had landed at Rahim Yar Khan Airport last Sunday, where he was received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During the visit, Maryam Nawaz greeted the UAE leader with a handshake.

Following this event, altered videos and images, reportedly created using AI tools, began circulating online, depicting their interaction. In response, the FIA’s cybercrime wing in Lahore announced on Thursday that it had started an inquiry.

Authorities pledged to take action against individuals responsible for posting and spreading these AI-generated visuals both within Pakistan and internationally.

Additionally, a fabricated letter, supposedly from the UAE Embassy, surfaced on social media. The fake document urged the Pakistani government to address the alleged propaganda targeting the UAE president and his meeting with the Punjab chief minister.

The FIA has emphasized its commitment to identifying and holding accountable those responsible for spreading misinformation and defamatory content.
