Here are the Camera Upgrades Coming to iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

According to a recent leak from Digital Chat Station in China, Apple plans to equip the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max with upgraded camera systems.

Both models will reportedly share identical camera setups, featuring three rear cameras and one front-facing camera. The selfie camera will receive a upgrade to a 24MP sensor for more detail.

Rear Camera Setup

Apple will include a 48MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 48MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom on the rear. While the main sensor may be slightly smaller than the iPhone 16 Pro models, the periscope telephoto lens will offer a higher resolution, likely enhancing zoom capabilities and image sharpness.

These updates suggest Apple will focus on refining camera performance rather than introducing a major overhaul.

Design Updates

Prototypes of the iPhone 17 Pro models currently feature a horizontal camera island on the rear, confirming earlier rumors. However, sources indicate Apple has not finalized the design yet and will make a decision by March.

This is the reason why there have been conflicting reports about the iPhone 17’s camera design. Older leaks suggested a camera visor similar to the Gooogle Pixel series (as shown below), but newer reports suggest otherwise.

Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max at its September launch event. While the hardware changes may appear subtle, Apple is expected to highlight both the hardware and software advancements during the presentation.
