Punjab Announces Tourism Corridor from Quaid-e-Azam Interchange to Wagah Border

The Punjab government plans to develop a Tourism Corridor along GT Road, stretching from the Quaid-e-Azam Interchange to the Wagah Border. The project includes the construction of a newly expanded, carpeted road, modern stairways, and a model structure fence.

The Punjab Communication and Works Department has already initiated preliminary work on this project, expected to cost Rs. 3.28 billion. The government allocated Rs. 1 billion for the project in the current fiscal year’s budget.

This initiative was also discussed during a recent meeting of the Apex Committee. Construction is underway, with plans to build aesthetically designed walls on both sides of GT Road.

These walls will showcase Lahore’s cultural heritage, enhancing the visual appeal of the corridor.

The new corridor aims to provide modern facilities for tourists traveling from India to Pakistan via Wagah Border. Previously, GT Road faced significant issues, including encroachments and poor road conditions, which hindered travel and posed security concerns.

Once completed, the Tourism Corridor is expected to boost regional tourism and offer a safer, more enjoyable experience for visitors entering Pakistan through this historic route.
