The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has refuted social media claims about an unprecedented cold wave and snowfall in the country.
Addressing the rumors on Friday, the PMD clarified that reports suggesting “the coldest days and nights in 100 years” between January 12 and 15, along with snowfall in central Punjab similar to Saudi Arabia, are entirely false and lack any scientific basis.
The department emphasized that snowfall in central Punjab is not possible due to the region’s geographic and climatic characteristics, dismissing such claims as baseless.
According to the PMD, most parts of Pakistan are expected to experience cold and dry weather. However, no evidence supports the occurrence of an unusually severe or historic cold spell.
On January 11, light rain or drizzle, combined with strong winds, may affect areas including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Pakpattan.
The PMD has urged the public to rely solely on accurate information shared through its official platforms and avoid believing unverified news from unofficial sources, which only spread unnecessary fear.
The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety by delivering reliable weather forecasts and updates.
