Winter vacations for schools in Punjab officially concluded on Friday, January 10.
Despite this, misinformation about an extension of the holidays created confusion among students and parents.
Social media and WhatsApp platforms were rife with rumors claiming that the break had been extended until January 18, 2025, due to the prevailing cold weather.
Punjab’s Secretary of Education, Khalid Nazir Watoo, addressed these false reports, categorically denying any extension.
In an official statement, Watoo confirmed that schools would reopen on January 13, 2025, as originally scheduled. He stressed the importance of relying on official sources for updates and urged parents to ignore unverified claims circulating online.
“All announcements related to school holidays or schedule changes will be communicated through the verified social media accounts of the School Education Department Punjab,” Watoo stated.
The Education Secretary’s clarification aims to dispel confusion and curb the spread of misinformation, reminding the public to trust only the department’s official communication channels for accurate and reliable updates.
