Prices of 14 Essential Medicines Increased by 250%

According to a national daily, the cost of 14 essential medicines and injections has risen significantly, some by as much as 250%. This sharp escalation is causing financial strain for patients and their families.

The most substantial hike was for the Evinol injection, which now costs Rs. 1500 per box, up from Rs. 432. Other medicines have also experienced notable increases.

Irbesartan tablets now cost Rs. 686, compared to the previous Rs. 549, while Tenofovir tablets have gone up from Rs. 260 to Rs. 313.

Brexin tablets rose to Rs. 650 from Rs. 600, and Ponstan tablets increased from Rs. 736 to Rs. 931. Pulmonol syrup, previously priced at Rs. 19, is now Rs. 165, and Ansaid tablets climbed from Rs. 276 to Rs. 325.

Gravinate injection has jumped from Rs. 253 to Rs. 626, while Clarithromycin syrup now costs Rs. 650, up from Rs. 281. Similarly, Surbex Z, Sunny D injection, and other essential medicines have seen sharp price hikes.

The rising costs of these vital medicines are creating challenges for families across the country, raising concerns about access to affordable healthcare and the growing burden on vulnerable communities.
