27 Electric Buses to Start Running on Two Routes in Lahore This Month

Punjab Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi announced on Monday that 27 electric buses designated for Lahore will arrive at Karachi Port on January 15, six days earlier than expected.

These environmentally friendly buses will initially operate on two routes during the first phase of their deployment.

Dr. Qazi shared that Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will oversee the receipt of the buses at Karachi Port this week. He further mentioned that the buses were procured from China, with the purchase process now complete.

The buses are set to arrive in Lahore on January 21, where they will be unveiled before beginning operations on January 31. Preparations are in place to introduce the electric buses on two routes: one connecting Canal Road and the Railway Station to RA Bazaar, and another yet to be disclosed.

Each electric bus, priced at Rs. 88 million, has an operational lifespan of 12 years. The total cost for the 27 buses amounts to Rs. 2.46 billion.
