The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has initiated a pilot project to create dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists on Ferozepur Road in Lahore, aimed at improving traffic flow and ensuring commuter safety. This initiative, launched on the special directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, is the first of its kind in the city and will serve as a model for similar projects on other major roads.
The pilot project spans 4 kilometers on both sides of Ferozepur Road, starting from Kalma Chowk and extending to the Lahore Bridge (Qainchi). These lanes, measuring 12 feet wide, are being constructed on the outer edges of the road, separated from the main traffic lanes by curb stones and coated with eco-friendly blue paint. The lanes are designed to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents involving cyclists and motorcyclists.
During a site visit to inspect the ongoing work, LDA Director General Tahir Farooq reviewed the project and received a detailed briefing from LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed and Project Director Haroon Saifi. According to Mr. Saeed, the dedicated lanes will offer a safer and more convenient commute for citizens, while promoting an environmentally friendly approach to urban transportation.
If successful, the pilot project will pave the way for similar dedicated lanes on other key roads in Lahore, including Jail Road, The Mall, Multan Road, Wahdat Road, and Canal Road. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and addressing the challenges of mixed traffic on the city’s busiest roads.
