The federal government has mandated registration for Pakistani medical students planning to pursue education abroad.
Students seeking MBBS or BDS degrees overseas must register with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). This registration, which will be processed via the PMDC’s official website, is now a prerequisite for studying at foreign institutions.
This decision aims to ensure that students enroll only in accredited medical colleges abroad and to provide oversight for their safety and education. The move comes in response to incidents of violence reported against Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan in 2024, emphasizing the need for stronger protections.
In addition to enhancing safety measures, the registration process is intended to help maintain high educational standards for students studying abroad.
Thousands of Pakistani medical students are enrolled in institutions across countries like China, Cuba, and Central Asia.
By making registration mandatory, the government seeks to address the challenges faced by students overseas and to ensure their academic and personal well-being during their studies.
