Nasser Hussain Backs This Pakistani Player to be in Cricket’s Next ‘Fab Four’

The cricketing world is abuzz with speculation about the next generation of batting superstars who could emulate the dominance of the famed ‘Fab Four.’ Among the emerging names, Pakistan’s top-order sensation Saim Ayub has garnered attention from former England captain Nasser Hussain.

Despite being in the infancy of his international career, Saim Ayub has already turned heads with his impressive performances. The 22-year-old made his international debut against Afghanistan in March 2023 and, in just over a year, has accumulated 44 international caps. Saim’s ODI record is particularly noteworthy—three centuries and a half-century in just nine matches underscore his ability to deliver under pressure. His aggressive yet composed batting style has made him a standout performer, even as he navigates the early stages of his career.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast alongside Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain named Saim Ayub as a potential member of the next ‘Fab Four.’ Hussain lauded Ayub’s dynamic batting at the top of the order, emphasizing his ability to adapt across formats.

“Saim Ayub’s just had this injury, and it’s uncertain whether he’ll be fit for the Champions Trophy, but he could be a dynamic player at the top of the order for Pakistan across all formats,” Hussain remarked.

Hussain’s other picks for the coveted quartet included England’s Harry Brook and India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal. His final choice, Travis Head, was humorously vetoed by Atherton, who pointed out that Head’s age disqualifies him from being considered a part of the new generation. Michael Atherton, meanwhile, offered his own predictions, naming Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis and New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra alongside Brook and Jaiswal.

Legendary commentator Martin Crowe first introduced the term ‘Fab Four’ in 2013. Crowe’s prophetic claim that Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson would dominate world cricket proved remarkably accurate. Over the last decade, this quartet has defined consistency and excellence across all formats, setting a near-impossible benchmark for future generations.

For now, the spotlight is firmly on Saim Ayub, whose meteoric rise could make him the face of Pakistan cricket in the future.
