Sindh is leading the way in driving transformative change for the transgender community in education by initiating the province’s first-ever transgender education policy. The chief minister of Sindh has directed the education department to take this groundbreaking step, setting an example for the rest of the country.
Sindh government spokesperson Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani highlighted that Sindh is the only province actively working to develop a dedicated policy for transgender education, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and equality.
He also noted that the Sindh government had previously approved a job quota for transgender individuals under the Sindh Civil Servants Amendment Act, enabling them to secure government jobs through both merit-based and reserved quotas. Moreover, Sindh became the first province in Pakistan to reserve a quota for transgender persons in the local government system.
Hemnani emphasized that these initiatives aim to uphold the fundamental rights of the transgender community while promoting equality. He added that the Sindh government’s efforts would not only empower transgender individuals through education but also raise societal awareness and improve their socio-economic standing.
