Famous Islamic School Gets Rs. 5 Million Fine for Taking Extra Fee from Students

The Directorate of Private Institutions Sindh has imposed a fine of Rs5 million on Al-Fajr Academy for unauthorized fee charges and instructed the school to reimburse the excess amounts to parents. The penalty follows a complaint by Zohaib Yousufi, alleging that the school raised tuition fees without approval, demanded upfront payments, and imposed arbitrary fees for stationery, supplies, and other activities.

Additionally, Rafia Mallah, the Additional Director, issued a warning letter to Al-Fajr Academy. The letter stated that a team of monitoring and inspection officers visited the school on November 27, 2024, uncovering unauthorized fee collections in various forms. An inquiry committee, established under Rule 18 of the Sindh Private Educational Institutions Rules 2005, confirmed these violations. The committee found that the school charged Rs35,000 per month in tuition fees, exceeding the approved Rs28,150, and imposed additional fees for books, bags, field trips, and a “parent training fee.”
