Indian captain Rohit Sharma has set his sights on winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with the tournament set to begin next month in Pakistan and the UAE.
Speaking passionately about his ambitions, Sharma revealed plans to bring the Champions Trophy to Mumbai in a grand victory parade at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
Sharma’s Vision
“We will try our best to win the Champions Trophy,” said Rohit Sharma. “I’m sure that the wishes of 140 crore Indians will be behind us when we land in Dubai. Once we win, we’ll bring the trophy to Wankhede Stadium to celebrate with the fans,” he added, expressing his determination to deliver India’s third Champions Trophy title.
Sharma’s comments came during the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on January 19, an event that saw cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri in attendance.
The historic venue, which has hosted numerous iconic cricketing moments, also marked Sharma’s presence in honoring this significant milestone.
India’s Champions Trophy Legacy
India’s Champions Trophy history is rich with triumphs and near-misses.
In 2002, under Sourav Ganguly’s leadership, India shared the title with Sri Lanka after a rain-affected final. In 2013, MS Dhoni led India to outright victory, with Shikhar Dhawan earning the Golden Bat and Ravindra Jadeja winning the Golden Ball. However, in 2017, Virat Kohli’s India, as defending champions, suffered a crushing defeat against Pakistan in the final.
A Packed Schedule and Intense Rivalries
The 2025 Champions Trophy will be held from February 19 to March 9. The matches will be spread across three venues: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, and Dubai in the UAE. One of the most highly anticipated fixtures will be the India vs Pakistan clash, scheduled for February 23 in Dubai. This will be a blockbuster contest, sure to draw global attention as two arch-rivals face off in the tournament’s early stages.
With a strong squad and a clear vision of victory, Rohit Sharma and his team are gearing up for what promises to be a thrilling campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
