At its recent Unpacked event, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S25 series smartphones, including the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, while also offering glimpses of its ambitious plans. The company unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, a slim and ultra-thin device expected later this year, and confirmed the development of a tri-fold phone, which we have been hearing of quite a bit.
Additionally, Samsung shared details of its collaboration with Google on AR glasses, signaling its intent to break into the augmented reality space.
Samsung confirmed that a tri-fold smartphone is officially in the works. While no specific timeline for its release was provided, the company suggested that the tri-fold device could launch following the next iterations of the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip foldable, which will launch in July this year.
This announcement positions Samsung against Huawei, which has already explored tri-fold designs with its Mate X series. Samsung is rumored to have designed its tri-fold phone with a G-Type fold that folds entirely inward, unlike Huawei’s “S-shaped” fold. This inward fold provides better protection for the large screen when not in use.
The unfolded screen will reportedly measure around 9.9 to 10 inches, delivering a tablet-like experience in a pocketable size.
Reports also suggest that Samsung plans to limit production of its first tri-fold device to just 200,000 units, to test the market for its new product at this price range.
As mentioned earlier, Samsung also revealed plans to collaborate with Google on AR glasses. While specific details remain under wraps, this partnership leverages Google’s software expertise and Samsung’s hardware innovation, having many different types of products under its lineup already.
