Samsung has officially unveiled its Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+, the latest entries in its flagship lineup. While these devices bring a host of refinements, particularly in software and AI features, the hardware improvements remain evolutionary rather than revolutionary, as always.
We will be covering the Galaxy S25 Ultra in a separate post.
Design and Display
Samsung has retained the familiar design language from previous Galaxy models but introduced subtle yet meaningful enhancements. Both devices feature Armor Aluminum frames that incorporate recycled materials. The S25 and S25+ are available in elegant colors such as Icyblue, Mint, Navy, and Silver Shadow. Samsung’s official website offers exclusive shades, including Blue Black, Coral Red, and Pink Gold.
The Galaxy S25 sports a 6.2-inch 1080p+ LTPO OLED display, while the S25+ features a 6.7-inch 1440p+ LTPO OLED screen, providing sharper visuals and a larger canvas. Both displays support 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rates, ensuring smooth transitions while conserving battery life during less intensive tasks. Despite keeping the same screen sizes as last year’s models, Samsung has managed to make the devices 0.4mm thinner and slightly lighter.
Internals and Software
The Galaxy S25 series is powered by Samsung’s custom Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, delivering impressive performance gains. Compared to its predecessor, the new chipset offers 37% faster CPU performance, 30% better GPU compute power, and a 40% faster NPU, making it a powerhouse for gaming, multitasking, and AI-driven features.
Samsung has also standardized 12 GB of RAM across all models, finally phasing out the 8 GB configuration. Storage options range from 128 GB (exclusive to the S25) to 512 GB, providing flexibility for various user needs.
On the software front, One UI 7 takes center stage, introducing a suite of advanced AI features. The Personal Data Engine enables on-device AI processing, allowing users to make requests like finding specific photos or information without sending data to the cloud, ensuring privacy and security.
The new Now Bar enhances the lock screen experience by offering context-aware suggestions, while Gemini, Samsung’s upgraded AI assistant, integrates seamlessly with apps like Spotify and Google. Additionally, Samsung promises 7 years of software updates, providing unmatched longevity in the Android ecosystem.
Cameras
While the camera hardware remains largely unchanged, with a 50MP main sensor, 10MP 3x telephoto lens, and 12MP ultrawide lens, Samsung has focused on improving software capabilities. The ProVisual Engine introduces 10-bit HDR video recording by default, allowing users to capture more vibrant videos.
The new Galaxy Log function offers advanced video editing options, while improved noise reduction enhances nighttime video quality. The Audio Eraser feature lets users isolate and remove unwanted sounds, such as wind or crowd noise, just like Google’s AI feature for Pixel phones.
For photography enthusiasts, Expert RAW now features a Virtual Aperture tool, enabling users to adjust the depth of field for more professional-looking images. Portrait Studio has also been enhanced, delivering more lifelike facial expressions and improved subject isolation.
However, the lack of major hardware upgrades in the camera department may leave users hoping for a more substantial leap in imaging technology somewhat underwhelmed.
Battery and Pricing
Battery capacities remain untouched from last year’s models. The Galaxy S25 comes with a 4,000 mAh battery, while the S25+ packs a 4,900 mAh battery. Charging speeds are also the same, with the S25+ supporting 45W wired charging (capable of reaching 65% in 30 minutes) and the S25 limited to 25W wired charging (50% in 30 minutes). Both models support 15W Qi wireless charging, though Qi2 is notably absent.
These figures, while sufficient, might feel stagnant for users expecting innovation in battery performance. It seems that Samsung has skipped out on silicon carbon tech for the vanilla S25 and S25+, unlike many Chinese flagships which have been pumping battery numbers without increasing thickness.
Pricing starts at $799.99 for the Galaxy S25 and $999.99 for the Galaxy S25+, with additional costs for higher storage tiers. Pricing and availability details remain unclear in Pakistan, but since the Samsung Pakistan website has already showcased the entire S25 series, it should not be long before we get those details.
