On Friday, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) took action by sealing 10 plazas and five houses located on Morgah Road, Gulshan Abad, and Dhamyal Kalyal Road due to violations of building plans and regulations.
According to a press release, the owners of these properties were found to have breached approved building plans despite receiving multiple notices from the RDA. Their actions contravened the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the RDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2020.
These properties had been illegally converted into residential-cum-commercial establishments without the necessary approvals or no-objection certificates (NOCs). Despite earlier notices sent to the property owners regarding these illegal constructions, compliance with authorities’ directives was not forthcoming.
Director General Kinza Murtaza of the RDA has instructed the Land Use and Building Control (LU&BC) Wing to enforce stricter measures against encroachments, unauthorized constructions, and unlawful commercial activities. Additionally, the Building Control Wing has been tasked with reviewing and imposing charges for approving illegal residential and commercial buildings, with a specific focus on regularizing all such structures within the RDA’s jurisdiction.
Murtaza emphasized that the RDA remains dedicated to upholding the city’s planning and zoning laws to ensure systematic urban development.
