Meta has announced significant updates to Meta AI, making it smarter and more personal than ever before. The company has introduced a memory feature, enabling the chatbot to remember details from its one-on-one chats on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram. While this sounds great on paper, you should also remember that Meta will be reading all your conversations and remembering them for future queries.
Smarter Memory, Better Responses
The memory upgrade lets the chatbot remember specific preferences or details shared during conversations. For example, suppose you tell Meta AI you’re vegan after it suggests a meat-based breakfast. In that case, it will store that information and ensure future recipe suggestions align with your dietary preferences. It can also use your previous conversations on Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp for its suggestions with no option to opt out of the data collection, according to a Meta spokesperson.
Personalized Suggestions Based on Context
Meta AI’s new personalization abilities go beyond just remembering preferences. For instance, if you ask for family-friendly activities over the weekend, it could recommend tickets to a local country music concert. This suggestion would draw from details like your home location (set on Facebook), your interest in live music reels, and your memory that you have a partner and two kids.
For now, the memory boost is available only to users in the US and Canada. According to Meta, this feature is designed to adapt and improve over time, making interactions more seamless and contextually aware. Sounds like a privacy nightmare.
