An American woman, Onijah Andrew Robinson, who alleges being deceived by a Pakistani teenager, has demanded $100,000 to return home. Meanwhile, Ramzan Chhipa, head of the Chhipa Foundation, has declared her mentally unstable.
Unusual Demand at Press Conference
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, Onijah, and Ramzan Chhipa held a joint press conference at the Chhipa Foundation’s headquarters in Karachi, where she made an unexpected request:
“I request the government to give me $100,000. I want to go to Dubai with my husband.”
She specified that $20,000 would be for herself, while the remaining amount should be used to improve Karachi’s roads and cleanliness.
During the press conference, Onijah lost her temper and snapped at Chhipa, telling him to “keep quiet” and accusing him of talking too much.
Ramzan Chhipa Declares Onijah Mentally Unstable
In response, Ramzan Chhipa stated that Onijah was mentally unstable. Late at night, he intervened and brought her from Tipu Sultan Police Station to the Chhipa Foundation’s headquarters near FTC, Karachi.
He revealed that Onijah had not slept for three days, which had affected her health.
“She is like my sister, and we will take care of her,” Chhipa stated, assuring that female volunteers from his foundation would look after her well-being.
A Social Media Romance Gone Wrong
The controversy began when 19-year-old Karachi resident Ahmad Nidal Memon allegedly met Onijah on social media. According to Onijah, they married online, and he promised to be with her.
Trusting him, Onijah divorced her husband, left her children behind, and traveled to Pakistan on October 11 to be with Ahmad. However, his family strongly opposed the relationship, leaving her stranded in Karachi without a return ticket.
“We Are Already Married,” Claims Onijah
Speaking to the media, Onijah insisted that she and Ahmad were legally married online in Utah, USA.
“Although we are married, we don’t have children yet. I only want a secure home with him,” she stated, denying allegations that she was seeking money.
“Money is nothing; I have money, and everyone here has money. This is about love, not wealth,” she added.
Protest Outside Lover’s Home
After Ahmad’s family refused to accept the marriage, Onijah staged a protest outside his apartment in Ali Arcade, Karachi.
She spent an entire night in the parking lot, braving the cold, and refused to leave until her demands were met.
Legal Challenges and Social Media Attention
The case has sparked legal scrutiny, with authorities now investigating the validity of her alleged online marriage. Meanwhile, Ahmad has gone into hiding, and his family remains firm in their rejection of Onijah.
US Consulate Steps In
The situation escalated when Onijah was offloaded from a Qatar Airways flight (QR 611) at Karachi Airport after she allegedly created a disturbance and misbehaved with airline staff.
The US Consulate in Karachi has since intervened but clarified that they cannot forcibly repatriate her against her will, as doing so could have legal repercussions for the US government.
Ramzan Chhipa expressed concern over the ongoing controversy, stating:
“She keeps changing her statements every five minutes. This entire situation is damaging Pakistan’s image.”
He urged Ahmad Nidal Memon and his family to step forward and resolve the matter.
