The annual desilting of Khanpur Dam, the primary water source for Rawalpindi and Islamabad is scheduled for February 10 to February 20. Water supply to both cities will remain disrupted until the process is complete on February 23.
Officials stated that desilting is a routine maintenance measure to prevent sediment buildup and to ensure efficient water flow. The operation will span the Khanpur Dam to the Sangjani filtration plant.
The Sangjani filtration plant will also undergo cleaning. Authorities have advised residents, businesses, and commercial sectors to store water in advance and limit usage during the disruption.
Those facing urgent shortages can reach out to the Water Supply Branch for assistance.
A private contractor has been assigned to complete the desilting, using both large and small-scale machinery. The water supply is expected to return to normal on February 23 once the work is completed.

Independent Journalism is big fraud in this country.
From a senior citizen from Islamabad: Dear officials since the contract is given to a private Contractor therefore we should request him to expedite the work by putting high number of work force, many people are suffering through out the year, even in F-11 Sector CDA is not supplying required water pressure and they have increased the tanker rate as well, six minutes water Supply by tanker is increased from 200 to 600/= on top of it quarterly water charges are also high,I met officials 18/19 times, they are very polite but progress is almost zero, may Allah give them understanding to understand our serious water shortage issue. Please reduce the number of days for the maintenance, best regards.
