Gaddafi Stadium Honours National Icons With New End Names

In a significant move to honor Pakistan’s revered leaders, Gaddafi Stadium has renamed its two ends as part of the venue’s extensive renovation efforts ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This change—paying tribute to the Founding Fathers—sees the Pavilion End renamed as the Jinnah End and the Far End designated as the Iqbal End.

The renaming pays homage to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, and Allama Iqbal, the nation’s esteemed philosopher-poet. By associating these iconic figures with Gaddafi Stadium, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) aims to inspire players and fans alike while embedding a sense of national pride within the cricketing venue.

Gaddafi Stadium has undergone a substantial transformation to meet international standards for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Key upgrades include:

• New Pavilion Building: Equipped with five-star facilities for players, match officials, and dignitaries, in line with the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) highest standards.
• Enhanced Spectator Experience: Enclosures have been moved 20 feet closer to the playing area, bringing fans nearer to the action. This redesign has also increased the stadium’s capacity from 21,500 to over 34,000 spectators.
• Modern Amenities: Installation of new replay screens and LED floodlights, alongside the construction of a new head office for the PCB.

Despite the extensive renovations, the PCB has clarified that the names of all enclosures remain unchanged, dispelling rumors of any alterations.

As the ICC Champions Trophy approaches, the revamped Gaddafi Stadium—with its modern facilities and renewed homage to national heroes—stands ready to welcome cricketing nations and fans from around the world.
