The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has decided to upgrade more than 5 million single-phase meters by replacing them with advanced smart meters.
According to a private news channel, citing sources, the company has begun purchasing Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meters as part of a pilot project to modernize its system.
The installation of these smart meters is expected to eliminate overbilling, as all billing processes will be managed directly from a central control room.
Previously, LESCO had initiated a similar plan for three-phase smart meters, and after observing positive results in recovery and line loss reduction, the company has now moved forward with single-phase meters.
LESCO will install these smart meters for both new connections and replacements for existing meters, aiming to enhance efficiency and transparency in electricity billing.
