Pakistan Hockey Federation is set to welcome two international field hockey clubs as it aims to restore the sport’s image in the country after a period of decline. Lahore, already a hub for cricket, will now host hockey action as well, with teams from renowned German and Dutch clubs scheduled to arrive in the city tomorrow.
Their visit marks a significant step as part of the Prime Minister’s initiative to boost hockey’s growth in the country once again. The national youth program team has been selected to compete against the visiting clubs, providing young players with a valuable opportunity to test their skills against elite international competition.
The Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, oversaw player trials at the Johar Town Hockey Stadium and expressed his enthusiasm for the sport’s resurgence. “The Prime Minister has declared 2025 as the year of hockey’s revival. It is exciting to see not just international cricket but also top-tier hockey players coming to Pakistan,” he stated while speaking to the media.
He also revealed that Khawaja Junaid and Pervez Sindhila have been assigned key roles in coordinating European hockey development and overseeing Pakistan’s hockey revival efforts.
“This is not a time for division but for providing young athletes with opportunities to grow. Only through fostering talent and engagement can the country move forward,” he added.
With the arrival of top European hockey clubs, Pakistan’s commitment to restoring its once-dominant hockey legacy is gaining momentum, setting the stage for a new era of international collaboration in the sport.
