A Pakistani driver for a luxury transport company in Dubai has been sentenced to a year in prison for sexually assaulting a female passenger, according to a news outlet.
The incident happened in April last year when a Polish woman booked a ride home from a hotel in Business Bay. Court records show that instead of following the designated route, the driver took her to a remote, dimly lit location where the assault took place.
The woman, who had been drinking that night, told investigators she hailed the ride around 9 PM. During the trip, the driver stopped, forced her out, and attacked her in a deserted area.
After the assault, she walked to a nearby building, took another taxi home, and went to sleep. The next morning, as memories of the incident surfaced, she reported it to the police. A forensic examination was conducted, and she later identified the driver in a lineup.
In court, he denied the charges, arguing that his statements were misinterpreted due to a lack of a translator. However, forensic evidence supported the woman’s claim, leading to his conviction. After serving his sentence, he will be deported.
