Remittances by overseas Pakistanis increased by 25 percent year-on-year (YoY) to $3 billion during January 2025 compared to $2.4 billion during January 2024, according to latest data by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, remittances were down by 3 percent compared to inflows of 3.08 billion reported in December 2024.
A breakdown of the numbers shows that the highest inflows were registered from Saudi Arabia, coming in at $728 million, followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at $622 million, the United Kingdom (UK) at $444 million, European Union (EU) countries at $354 million, and the United States (US) at $298 million.
The inflows from Saudi Arabia were up 24 percent YoY, while the inflows from UAE, and the UK were up by 53 percent YoY and 22 percent YoY, respectively.
The inflows from European Union (EU) countries registered an increase of 22 percent YoY while that from the US increased by 5 percent.
In 7MFY25, remittances increased by 32 percent YoY to $20.85 billion compared to inflows of $15.8 billion reported in 7MFY24.
