Pakistan’s sugar exports to Afghanistan have witnessed a massive 4,332 percent increase in the first seven months of the current financial year, reaching $262.7 million from just $5.9 million in the same period last year, sources told ProPakistani.
Sugar now accounts for the largest share of Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan.
The federal government had permitted the export of 750,000 metric tons of sugar between June and October 2024, with an additional 500,000 metric tons approved for export in the last fortnight of October 2024.
Meanwhile, sugar prices in the domestic market have surged by an average of Rs. 21.26 per kilogram over the past 10 weeks. The current average price stands at Rs. 153.11 per kg, while the maximum recorded price is Rs. 160 per kg. Ten weeks ago, the average price was Rs. 131.85 per kg, according to official data.
