IESCO Announces Massive Increase in Meter Fees

Consumers under the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) will now face significantly higher meter installation charges.

Under the revised pricing, the cost of a single-phase meter has surged from Rs. 11,000 to Rs. 35,000, while a three-phase meter will now be installed for Rs. 85,000. The updated rates have been implemented immediately across Rawalpindi, Cantonment, and Taxila regions.

Meanwhile, in a key development regarding the privatization of three major power distribution companies—IESCO, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO)—strict restrictions have been imposed on new hiring, promotions, and employee incentives.

These companies now need approval from the Privatization Commission before making any such decisions.

According to a private news channel, these power firms must obtain prior approval before signing contracts. Authorities have also instructed them to maintain updated records and financial statements.

A financial advisor has already been appointed to oversee the privatization process, while a dedicated committee has been formed to facilitate the transition.
