Pakistan’s passport has fallen 22 positions over the past two decades, declining from 79th place in 2006 to 101st in July 2026, according to the latest Henley Passport Index.
The July 2026 edition marks the 20th anniversary of the index and highlights the unequal growth of global mobility. While the average passport now provides visa-free access to 108 destinations, up from 58 in 2006, Pakistan’s passport has become weaker in global rankings.

Pakistan reached its lowest position in 2021, when the passport ranked 113th globally. It has since recovered gradually, rising to 101st place in 2024 before slipping to 103rd in 2025.
The ranking also changed several times during 2026. Pakistan improved to 98th place in January and 97th in February. However, it fell to 100th in May and then to 101st in July.
Pakistani passport holders currently have visa-free, visa-on-arrival or Electronic Travel Authorization access to 29 destinations. This includes 11 visa-free destinations, 15 visa-on-arrival destinations and three destinations offering Electronic Travel Authorization.
Passport rankings can change when countries introduce visa waivers, tighten entry requirements or revise visa-on-arrival policies. Diplomatic relations, security concerns, international confidence and geopolitical conditions can also affect a country’s passport strength.
Although Pakistan’s passport has recovered from its lowest ranking in 2021, it remains significantly weaker than it was two decades ago.
