Pakistan’s Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced a nationwide contest to name the country’s first lunar rover mission, offering a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for the winning entry.
According to details, Pakistan is set to achieve a major milestone in space exploration, with its first moon rover mission scheduled for launch in 2028. Citizens have been invited to submit name suggestions, with the best entry receiving a cash reward.
Last year in May, Pakistan’s satellite ‘iCUBE-Qamar’ was launched alongside China’s Chang’e 6 mission to orbit the Moon. The satellite was sent from China’s Wenchang Space Center in Hainan, making Pakistan the sixth country to send a satellite into the Moon’s orbit.
The iCUBE-Qamar satellite, developed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in collaboration with Shanghai University and SUPARCO, is equipped with two optical cameras to capture images of the lunar surface.
It also became part of the world’s first mission aimed at collecting samples from the far side of the Moon.
