Indian Pacer Equals Saqlain Mushtaq as Second-Fastest to 200 ODI Wickets

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami etched his name in the record books during the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh, becoming the fastest Indian bowler to claim 200 ODI wickets.

Shami’s achievement ties him with Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq, who also reached the milestone in 104 matches, and places him just behind Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who holds the record at 102 matches.

Shami achieved the milestone in his 103rd innings, surpassing Ajit Agarkar’s long-standing record of reaching the mark in 133 innings. He leads the Indian bowling lineup in the absence of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

This remarkable feat also makes Shami the third-fastest bowler in ODI history to reach 200 wickets, joining an elite group of cricketers who have dominated the format with their bowling prowess.

Shami’s milestone came during a stellar performance against Bangladesh, where he picked up three crucial wickets to dismantle the opposition’s batting lineup.  The 34-year-old pacer has been a vital cog in India’s bowling attack since his debut in 2013.
