Instagram Launches Several Upgrades for DMs, Available in Pakistan Already

Instagram unveiled a comprehensive update to its Direct Messages (DMs) that positions the feature to directly rival established messaging services like Apple’s iMessage and other services.

The main update revolves around enhanced music integration, allowing users to share songs within their conversations. The feature, accessible through stickers, enables music sharing in both private and group chats, though with limitations: the songs must be part of Instagram’s existing audio catalog and are restricted to 30-second previews.

Instagram has further enhanced its DMs with a translation system supporting 99 languages, which is very simple to use: a simple press-and-hold gesture on any message, followed by selecting “Translate,” instantly shows a translation text below the original message.

Additionally, the update brings improvements to pinned messages, where users can now highlight up to three messages in a chat – whether text messages, images, or Reels – at the top of any conversation thread. Users need only hold down the message and select the “Pin” option.

Instagram has also added message scheduling, extending up to 29 days in advance, activated by long-pressing the send button. Group chats can also be created by sharing QR codes now.

While these features are being deployed globally across iOS and Android devices starting today, desktop users will need to wait, as the web version update remains in development. The feature is already available in Pakistan, just make sure to update your Instagram app to the latest version using your respective app store.
