Jaker and Towhid Rescue Bangladesh with Historic Stand Against India in Champions Trophy

Bangladesh’s Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy produced a record-breaking partnership against India in their Champions Trophy 2025 clash in Dubai, rescuing their side from early trouble with a stunning counterattack. Their 154-run stand for the sixth wicket not only helped rescue their side from a precarious position but also set several records along the way.

After opting to bat first, Bangladesh found themselves in deep trouble as India’s bowlers made continuous inroads. The top order crumbled under relentless pressure, with Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana wreaking havoc during the powerplay, reducing Bangladesh to 39 for 5. At that point, it seemed like Bangladesh was on the verge of a disastrous collapse, but Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy had other plans.

The duo absorbed the initial pressure and slowly began to rebuild the innings. Hridoy, already an established name in Bangladesh’s middle order, played the anchor role, while Jaker Ali, a rising star, complemented him perfectly.

The duo rode their luck, but their resilience frustrated India’s bowling attack, and as their confidence grew, the boundaries started to flow. Without losing any more wickets, the duo added 154 runs for the sixth wicket, setting a myriad of records along the way. Their partnership is now the highest partnership for Bangladesh against India in ODIs.

It is also the highest sixth-wicket partnership against India in ODI history by any team. Their partnership is now also the standard for the Champions Trophy, becoming the highest sixth-wicket stand in ICC Champions Trophy history. The stunning counterattack by Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy ensured that Bangladesh, which once looked in danger of being dismissed for a paltry total, had something substantial to defend.

Despite their heroics, Bangladesh remains in a tricky position after Jaker was ultimately dismissed for 68. The Tigers will be hoping to stitch a few more contributions together to give their bowlers a sniff when it’s their turn with the ball.

With the highest-ever sixth-wicket partnership in Champions Trophy history now under their belt, Bangladesh will hope this stand will serve as a defining moment in their Group A campaign. As the match progresses, India will be wary of the momentum shift, knowing that early dominance has been undone by a historic stand for the ages.
