The Punjab government has proposed the development of 400 floating wetland ponds across the province, a project recently approved by the Provincial External Financing Assessment Committee within the Planning and Development (P&D) Department.
During a briefing to the Lahore High Court, officials outlined several environmental conservation initiatives. These include traffic management strategies for the upcoming Champions Trophy, water conservation efforts, improved solid waste disposal methods, and an expansive plantation campaign.
Justice Karim commended the progress and directed the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) to provide regular updates to the commission. He emphasized that PMDFC’s work on water conservation would yield long-term benefits for future generations.
A detailed report presented by the PMDFC Managing Director highlighted several ongoing projects, including the installation of wastewater treatment plants and the construction of storage tanks at rainwater drainage points. The report also proposed sustainable solutions for solid waste disposal and the utilization of gases generated from waste processing.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) informed the court that new regulations requiring greywater treatment plants in commercial buildings have been approved, further advancing the province’s environmental sustainability goals.
