OpenAI’s AI Agent ‘Operator’ Launches Globally

OpenAI has announced the global expansion of Operator, its AI agent capable of performing automated tasks for users. Initially launched in the U.S. in January 2025, Operator is now available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the U.K., and other regions.

The rollout does not include the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland at the moment.

What is Operator?

OpenAI Operator is an AI-powered assistant that manages everyday tasks, including booking tickets, making restaurant reservations, filing expense reports, and handling online shopping. Unlike basic chatbot functionalities, Operator actively interacts with third-party websites and services to complete tasks on behalf of users.

Availability and Pricing

Currently, Operator is exclusive to ChatGPT Pro users, who pay $200 per month for access. The tool operates through a dedicated webpage and runs in a separate browser window, allowing users to take control at any time. OpenAI has confirmed plans to integrate Operator with all ChatGPT clients in the future.

Operator faces competition from Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit, all of which are developing similar AI-driven automation tools. However, Google’s AI agent is still in a waitlist phase, Anthropic’s agentic interface is currently accessible only through an API, and Rabbit’s action model is limited to its device owners.

With this expansion, OpenAI aims to position Operator as a leading AI automation tool, offering advanced task completion beyond simple chatbot interactions. However, its steep price and limited accessibility means that it’s not for everyone.
