The Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue has approved an increase in the salaries of Senators to Rs. 519,000 per month, effective from January 1, 2025.
The decision was made during a two-day committee meeting with Senator Syedaal Khan Nasar in the chair.
Sources said that while senators will receive the approved raise, the salaries of the Chairman Senate and Deputy Chairman will remain unchanged. The move ensures that Senate members’ salaries are now aligned with those of National Assembly members, they added.
Key attendees of the meeting included Saleem Mandviwala, Shahadat Awan, and Liaquat Khan.
Last week, the federal government is now planning to raise the salaries of members of the Federal Cabinet, just over a week after the National Assembly passed an amendment bill to raise the basic salaries and allowances of MNAs and Senators.
It bears mentioning that in December 2024, the Punjab Assembly passed a bill to give huge raises to its members, ministers, and parliamentary officials.
