The federal government has failed to curb rising sugar prices as Ramazan fast approaches.
Sugar rates have spiked to Rs. 165 per kg in multiple cities and the mafia is running riot in hot-selling zones, sources informed ProPakistani. According to fresh data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), sugar is being sold for Rs. 160-165 per kg across different regions.
In Islamabad and Peshawar, sugar has reached Rs. 165 per kg, while in Rawalpindi, Larkana, and Karachi, it is priced at Rs. 160 per kg. In Lahore, Multan, and Quetta, sugar is available at Rs. 155 per kg, while in Sialkot and Bannu, the price stands at Rs. 158 per kg.
Faisalabad and Khuzdar have reported rates of Rs. 155 per kg, and in Hyderabad and Sukkur, sugar is being sold at Rs. 150 per kg.
The national average sugar price has climbed to Rs. 155.27 per kg.
The sugar mafia uses every dirty trick up its sleeve to rob citizens and this year the pre-Ramazan loot is no different. The price range for the staple food will likely increase during Ramazan if the government fails to apprehend unfair sellers in the market.
