Here’s What Apple is Adding to iPhone 17’s Cameras

According to reports Apple is planning to boost video recording capabilities on the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, possibly making them more attractive to vloggers and content creators. According to Mark Gurman’s latest ‘Power On’ newsletter, reported by 9to5Mac, Apple aims to position its 2025 iPhone lineup as a considerable alternative to DSLR cameras.

Expected Hardware and Software Enhancements

Although specific upgrades remain uncertain, Apple is expected to introduce a combination of hardware and software improvements. The tetraprism telephoto lens, which debuted in the iPhone 16 Pro Max, will likely be standardized on both iPhone 17 Pro models. Additionally, Apple may concentrate on software-based stabilization, enabling smoother handheld video recording, which is crucial for vloggers.

Another possible enhancement could involve improved microphone placement for better audio capture, reducing the need for external microphones.

Current iPhones already support direct footage transfers to external SSDs, allowing professionals to offload large files for post-production. However, creators still need external devices to edit their content. Apple might integrate professional-grade editing tools directly within the iPhone’s camera app to remove this hurdle.

Apple’s goal appears to be encouraging creators and vloggers to ditch traditional cameras in favor of iPhones for content production. While the exact features are unknown, these upgrades could increase Apple’s dominance in smartphone videography.

Apple is expected to announce the devices in September, matching its usual launch timeline.
