The first locally transmitted case of Mpox (Monkeypox) has been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, confirmed Health Advisor Ihtesham Ali. He stated that all previous cases were detected in individuals returning from international travel.
According to the health advisor, the infected woman was admitted to the hospital after experiencing fever and body aches, where tests later confirmed Mpox. Her husband had recently returned from a Gulf country and was also diagnosed with the virus.
Director of Public Health, Dr. Fazal Majeed, revealed that the patient was admitted on February 18, and by February 19, rashes had appeared on her body and inside her mouth. Her samples were sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory in Peshawar, where the disease was confirmed on February 21.
The health department has completed screening for the patient’s husband and other close contacts, advising all affected individuals to remain in home isolation.
Following the directive of the Director General of Health Services Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a Rapid Response Team has been formed to conduct further investigations.
Dr. Fazal Majeed urged the public to stay informed about Mpox symptoms and to immediately visit the nearest healthcare center if any suspicious symptoms arise.
