The government is expected to invite expressions of interest (EoIs) for the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) next month, with a formal advertisement likely to be issued in early March, Privatization Commission sources informed ProPakistani.
Officials confirmed that the government is pushing to complete the sale of the loss-making airline within the timeframe set by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier this month directed authorities to finalize the privatization of PIA by June 2025, four months earlier than the previously planned October deadline to fulfill International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions.
The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Privatization, and PIA officials have been instructed to expedite the process. The EoI will help fast-track the sale, sources added.
