The long-standing football crisis in Pakistan appears to be heading toward a resolution as the Pakistan Football Federation’s (PFF) Normalization Committee (NC) has assured the completion of elections for the PFF president and Executive Committee within the next two to three months.
The NC, led by Saud Hashmi, made this commitment during a meeting with the National Assembly Sub-Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC).
The NC highlighted the importance of the upcoming February 27 meeting with the elected Congress members, which will also be attended by a senior official from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Speaking about the meeting, Shahid Khokhar, a member of the NC, stated,
The February 27 meeting with the Congress members holds greater importance as on that day one of the AFC top officials will be here to attend the meeting in person. In case the Congress members accept constitutional changes, it would be easier for all the stakeholders to solve pending hurdles for smooth transition of powers to the elected Congress in due course.
The NC is optimistic that the meeting will pave the way for resolving key issues, including constitutional amendments and the finalization of the election process.
The NC also assured that any grievances regarding the inclusion of these members could be addressed through constitutional procedures, including a vote of no confidence, which requires one-third of Congress members to initiate the process.
During the meeting, Saud Hashmi briefed the sub-committee on the progress made in the election process at the district and provincial levels. He confirmed that district, provincial, and Congress bodies have been finalized, but elections for the PFF president and Executive Committee are still pending.
The NC also committed to submitting a detailed reply to the working paper questionnaire by February 28, as directed by the sub-committee.
