Punjab Launches New Police Department to Fight Organized Crime

The Punjab government has established the Crime Control Department (CCD) to address organized crime, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approving its formation and appointments.

The department will be led by an Additional Inspector General and will include three DIGs, SPs, SSPs at divisional headquarters, and DSPs in each district. A total of 4,258 officers and personnel will be part of the unit.

Equipped with modern technology, the CCD will focus on curbing seven major types of organized crime. Surveillance drones will reach crime scenes within five minutes, and the department will maintain a central database on crimes and criminals across Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz has instructed officials to ensure the immediate availability of buildings, vehicles, and modern equipment. She also approved the recruitment of 6,000 constables, including female officers, to strengthen law enforcement efforts.

According to the chief minister, the new department will help reduce crime and enhance public safety by utilizing advanced technology and strategic policing.

She emphasized the importance of equipping law enforcement with the best available resources to improve security in the province.
