Weekly Inflation in Pakistan Down to Lowest on Record 

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) based inflation for the week ended February 27, 2025, increased by 0.32 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to the data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). 

According to brokerage house Arif Habib Limit (AHL), the year-on-year figure is the lowest since available data. 

The year-on-year trend depicts an increase mainly due to an increase in the prices of Pulse Moong (28.47 percent), Bananas (27.78 percent), Pulse Gram (25.93 percent), Powdered Milk (25.86 percent), Beef (24.12 percent), Potatoes (23.24 percent), Garlic (17.26 percent), Vegetable Ghee 1 Kg (16.29 percent), Shirting (14.11 percent), Firewood (12.73 percent) and Georgette (10.89 percent). 

While major decrease was observed in the prices of Onions (50.26 percent), Tomatoes (48.14 percent), Wheat Flour (36.99 percent), Chilies Powder (20.00 percent), Electricity Charges for Q1 (18.92 percent), Pulse Mash (12.16 percent), Tea Lipton (12.09 percent), Pulse Masoor (11.23 percent), Rice Basmati Broken (8.47 percent), Diesel (8.07 percent), Petrol (6.97 percent) and LPG (0.84 percent). 

On the other hand, the SPI based inflation increased by 0.38 percent on week-on-week basis due to an increase in the prices of Tomatoes (11.49 percent), Bananas (8.32 percent), Eggs (5.43 percent), Chicken (4.13 percent), Potatoes (2.79 percent), Onions (2.04 percent), Beef (1.68 percent), Sugar (1.55 percent) and Cigarettes (0.51 percent). 

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 19 (37.25 percent) items increased, 11 (21.57 percent) items decreased and 21 (41.18 percent) items remained stable.
