Samsung Galaxy A56 Brings Major Charging Upgrade and More

Samsung has just unveiled its latest A-series phones, including the Galaxy A26, A36, and the higher-end Galaxy A56. The Galaxy A56 brings several upgrades to the table, such as faster charging 4 years after it was first introduced, longer software support, and a larger screen.

Design and Display

Starting with the design, you get a redesigned main camera island, a slimmer profile at 7.4 mm, and an aluminum frame. You get the same optical in-display fingerprint sensor.

The phone now has a bigger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with smaller bezels. The screen brightness has also been bumped up to 1200 nits in high brightness mode with 1900 nits of peak brightness. The resolution remains the same at 1080p with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection.

Internals and Software

The Galaxy A56 gets a major performance improvement over its predecessor, thanks to the Exynos 1580 chipset. This is the first phone with this high-end SoC since it was unveiled last year in October. It features a 2.9 GHz processor paired with an AMD-based GPU containing 2 work group processors. The neural processing unit delivers an impressive 14.7 TOPS (trillion operations per second), bringing a substantial 37% performance increase compared to last year’s model.

Unfortunately, earlier speculation regarding 12 GB of RAM was wrong, with the final product shipping with only 8 GB of memory. You can choose between 128 GB and 256 GB storage options. Samsung also brings six years of security patches and six OS upgrades. The handset will debut with Android 15 and Samsung’s One UI 7.0 interface, which introduces a visual overhaul alongside more customization and features, such as Circle to Search.

Cameras

The camera hardware remains unchanged on the latest model, retaining the 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide lens at f/2.2 and a 5MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture. The front-facing selfie camera maintains its 12MP resolution and f/2.2 aperture specifications.

Despite identical hardware, Samsung claims that the upgrades come from AI photography algorithms that run the imaging system. This includes context-aware image enhancement, superior low-light performance for still images and video through a specialized noise-reduction mode, and faster burst photography capabilities.

Technical refinements have also doubled the transition speed when zooming between the primary and ultra-wide lenses, with the switch now happening in under 430 milliseconds.

Battery and Pricing

Samsung’s 45W wired charging has always been limited to flagship models, but this is the first time an A-series phone has received faster charging. This allows the 5,000 mAh battery to fill up 0 to 100% in 68 minutes and 0 to 65% in only 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy A56 is available in Graphite Gray, Light Gray, Olive, and Pink color options for a starting price of $499.
