Apple has officially introduced the 2025 iPad Air lineup, featuring 11-inch and 13-inch models, equipped with the M3 chip. While the design and display remain unchanged, the new chipset promises improved performance.
Design and Display
The iPad Air (2025) retains the same design as last year’s models, with thin bezels, a lightweight build, and a premium aluminum finish. Available in Blue, Purple, Starlight, and Space Gray, the new models look identical to their predecessors.
The display remains a Liquid Retina panel with the refresh rate set at 60Hz, which may disappoint users hoping for ProMotion (120Hz). The screen resolution and brightness remain unchanged, making the M3 chip the primary upgrade this year.
Internals and Software
The M3 chip is the standout feature of the iPad Air (2025), replacing the M2 chip found in last year’s models. It comes with an 8-core CPU, 9-core GPU, and a 16-core NPU, offering up to 2x faster performance compared to the M1 iPad Air from 2022. Apple has not provided performance comparisons against the M2 model, leaving the real-world improvements unclear.
Both iPad Air models feature 8GB of RAM. Apple Intelligence is also supported, bringing advanced AI tools to the iPad Air lineup. The USB-C 3.1 connector remains, offering fast data transfer and accessory compatibility.
Camera
The iPad Air (2025) retains a 12MP rear camera for document scanning and casual photography, alongside a 12MP front-facing camera for video calls and selfies. The camera system remains unchanged from previous models.
Battery and Pricing
Apple has not made any changes to battery life, meaning users can expect the same all-day usage as previous models. Charging is still handled via USB-C, with no MagSafe or faster charging speeds introduced.
Pricing remains competitive for the M3-powered iPad Air lineup. The Wi-Fi-only 11-inch model starts at $599/€699/£599 for 128GB storage, while the cellular version costs $749/€869/£749. The 13-inch iPad Air starts at $799/€949/£799 for the Wi-Fi version, while the cellular model is priced at $949/€1,119/£949.
Apple has also updated the Magic Keyboard, featuring a larger trackpad and a row of function keys. The Magic Keyboard costs $269/€329/£269 for the 11-inch iPad Air and $319/€349/£299 for the 13-inch model.
Pre-orders are now open, with deliveries beginning on March 12. While the M3 chip brings improved performance, the lack of major display or design upgrades makes this a modest refresh rather than a groundbreaking update.
