Wasim Akram Urges Patience with Pakistan’s Newcomers

Legendary Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram has called for patience and support for the newcomers in the national cricket team, emphasizing the need for a long-term vision as Pakistan builds toward the 2026 T20 World Cup. Speaking to the local media, the former captain acknowledged recent challenges but stressed that young talents need time and backing to develop into world-class players.

“I have heard they are bringing in new players. If they do, we are not going to win straight away, so patience is important. Let the newcomers play for one or two years so that we can build a team for the 2026 World Cup,” Wasim Akram said.

Wasim also wished for Pakistan to move on from the team’s current performances, expressing hope for the future. “We can only lament what has happened, but we have to move on very quickly. We need to stop all the talk regarding them,” he added. Wasim Akram’s shift in tone is significantly different from his earlier stance. The left-hander was one of the most vocal critics of the national team’s recent performances, something which made him part of the headlines many times.

Pakistan, however, seems to already be adopting Wasim Akram’s suggestions. After a series of poor results, the team has recently undergone a dramatic shift, with several new faces joining the squad amid fluctuating results. Whether they are given an extended stay in the international circuit will be answered in a few months as well.

With an eye on the future, Pakistan’s cricketing fraternity will hope that Wasim Akram’s message resonates, ensuring a structured and supportive pathway for emerging players as they aim to bring glory to the nation in 2026 and beyond.
